About Angela J Dawson

Angela grew up in Manchester, England.  She is a writer and a poet, with a Grad Dip in Physiotherapy.  

Since 1988, she has lived and worked in Tasmania, Melbourne, Michigan USA, and also Katherine, in the Northern Territory.

She has studied copywriting and scriptwriting, attended workshops with UK screenwriter, Jimmy McGovern (Cracker, Accused, Redfern Now) and completed the Melbourne University Filmmaking Summer School.

In 2014 her work  featured in the ‘100 Years from Gallipoli Poetry Project’ (Graeme Lindsay); and she was also shortlisted for the NSW Lane Cove Literary Award.

In 2012 she won the National WB Yeats Poetry Prize for Australia with her poem, Restitution.

In 2007 she was the winner of the Tourism NT ‘Share Our Story’ travel writing competition (travelnt.com) with her short story, The Real Australia. 

For many years she has appeared regularly at Spoken Word venues, reading her poetry.   After a bit of wandering, she made a home in Melbourne – where she currently lives.
