The beginning

On Saturday 11 Feb 2017 I launched my first book, Like Two Mexicans Dancing at The Dan O’Connell Hotel, 225 Canning St, Carlton, VIC.

It’s a story (BIO/Memoir) about a Tasmanian band, The Fish John West Reject – often seen gigging around town in the 1990’s at The Tote, The Punters Club on Brunswick St, The Club, The Old Greek Theatre and even The Palace, St Kilda.

On the day of the launch, a Saturday afternoon in Carlton, the music was provided by two of the original band members, bass player, Andrew Viney, and guitarist, Martin Witheford.

On reflection, it’s a poignant memory.  Partly because the beloved Irish pub ceased trading, and closed in 2020 –  and the 1884 Gothic style building was ultimately sold.  But more so, because Martin sadly passed away in November 2020.  I’m forever grateful to have had him play at an event which was, after all, celebrating their memory as a much loved local band.
